The high rate of malnutrition in Pakistan, with a staggering 40.2% stunting, 28.9% underweight, and 17.7% stunting, indicates ongoing evidence of child malnutrition. The first thousand days of such a life of malnutrition provide an opportunity to lay a solid foundation for later success. This time frame is a period of great change characterized by a high degree of plasticity in the child’s neurodevelopment. Investment in the early years is the foundation of human capital and is a key driver of economic growth in a modern economy.
To address stunting prevention during the first 1000 days of opportunity, BISP has designed a conditional cash transfer intervention to scale up its beneficiaries’ health and nutrition services components through a developmental program design. The approval was also given by the Technical Design Committee of the BISP Board and reviewed by the BISP Board during its 34th meeting.
